Vs Merewether at home 21/06/14
A lovely winters day. Virtually no breeze . The ground continues to hold up and is in really good condition. This is the beginning of round 2 so believe it or not the season is now starting to turn the corner.
This was a last minute cobbled together side with injuries and unavailability making our job that little bit harder. But most importantly we beat Merewether for the first time in Premier 3.
The score was 17-14 after a great team effort both in attack and bruising defence. We have to try to get all the boys to training not just on a Thursday but Tuesday as well.
Players points went 3 to Guy Frostick, 2 to Sean Levy and 1 to Sam Logan who incidentally helped us out again big time with his match winning goal kicking
It’s a measure of how far the club has progressed that we were disappointed in a colts loss today when we were expecting a win after they had beaten us by 40 points in the first round.
We had some injuries in key positions at crucial times in the game that let them in for 2 soft tries. It meant that too many players were forced to play out of position to cover the injuries. A negative is that at times we didn’t make the most of our chances.
We lost 24-13 but if we meet Merewether again in the semis we’ll win and win convincingly.
Players points went 3 to Brodey Good child, 2 to Zac Bryant and 1 to Lachlan Winstone.
No doubt we had big expectations from this side and by the end of the first half we were not asking if we were going to win but by how much.
We were up 22-10 at half time but this didn’t indicate how dominant we were.
We ended up losing 26-25 after scoring 3 tries to 2. But ill -discipline as represented by them be able to kick over 4 penalties to 2 cost us the game. At times we seemed to lack fitness. Or as one player remarked maybe we were mentally lazy.
For this side a top 5 spot isn’t enough. We basically expect nothing less than top 3
On his 30th birthday a well deserved 3 points to Baz, 2 to Rob Arthur and 1 to Logan.
What a great sight to see club stalwart, Ben McCloy leading the side onto the field in his 100th game for the club. Well done Ben.
This was an important win for the club not just from a table point of view but the psychological boost it gives us. We have started the 4 game tough stretch and although we were confident there may still have been a few demons in the back of the mind wondering how we would go after having just finished our stretch against the “not as strong” sides.
Well the boys came through with flying colours.
We led 14-5 at half time and ran out winners 26-18.
As Tim said it’s still a worry that there are as many penalties/short arms in the games and they continue to go against us. If we can soon get on the good side of the penalty ledger we’ll start to wipe side s because at times it’s only penalties and short arms that are keeping them in the game. But we’ll take the points , thankyou.
Players points went 3 to Stoney, 2 to Mungi and 1 to Paul Sironene lookalike, Lanzo
